New facility for producing biogas from organic waste, designed by Anaergia and FAST.
In Sterksel, Netherlands, the company Blue Sphere has built a new facility for the production of biogas: 24,000,000 m3/year of biomethane derived from anaerobic digestion of 260,000 tonnes/year of organic waste (mainly pig manure and food processing waste).
Designed and built for Blue Sphere by Anaenergia, the installation is one of the largest biogas production facilities in Europe..
Working on behalf of Anaenergia, FAST designed, built, tested and commissioned the automation system and LV control panels, playing a fundamental role in the project’s success.
Entirely designed and made by FAST, the automation system is based on a fault-tolerant structure, consisting of a Siemens Simatic S7-1500H controller (with hot backup redundancy) and a Siemens WinCC Professional SCADA monitoring system, with the facility’s more-than-1,500 I/O connected to the PLC via a PROFINET fibre optic ring network.
Blue Sphere is an international, independent energy producer that transforms millions of tonnes of agricultural, municipal and industrial waste into clean sustainable energy. Instead of burying organic waste in landfill, Blue Sphere transforms this hazardous material into clean sustainable energy, helping to prevent the release of harmful greenhouse gasses into the environment (soil, underground aquifers and the atmosphere).
For many years, FAST has collaborated with large international organisations in the construction of biogas facilities and has also provided solutions for integrated water services.
